PÊCHE. Bas d'une ligne de pêche constitué par un ensemble de plusieurs hameçons. Il connaissait toutes les empiles, tous les bas de ligne, les tackles et les pater-noster (GENEVOIX, Boîte à pêche, 1926, p. 247).
Prononc.:[]. Homon. tacle. Étymol. et Hist. 1904 (Nouv. Lar. ill.). Empr. à l'angl. tackle att. dep. 1250 au sens de « équipement, attirail » (ds NED) d'où, spéc., « gréement, cordage, corde » ainsi que « équipement de guerre, armes, flèche » (dep. ca 1375, ibid.) et « dispositif, article pour la pêche » (dep. ca 1398, ibid.). NED suppose que tackle est issu du b. all. et corresp. au m. néerl. taeckel « cordage, câble » à l'orig. du néerl. takel « palan » (d'où le wall. tôke « grosse corde, grande corde qu'on passe par-dessus la charretée de foin » et tâkène « palan », v. FEW t. 17, p. 291a et 300a). Les sens de l'angl. tackle permettent également le rapprochement avec l'a. fr. tacle semblant désigner une arme défensive, peut-être un bouclier (GUILLAUME GUIART, Royaux Lignages, 14447 ds GDF., GEOFFROY DE PARIS, Chron. métrique, 1441 ds GDF. et éd. A. Diverrès, 1441 ds T.-L., et Document des Archives Angevines de Naples de 1278 d'apr. R. ARVEILLER ds Mél. Horrent (J.), p. 13) ainsi que le m. fr. et fr. mod. tacle désignant un type de flèche (THIERRY 1564, encore ds DUCHARTRE 1973) considérés comme d'orig. inc. ds FEW t. 23, fasc. 127, p. 135a-b.
